Privacy policy — Online assistance measure services
This policy explains how we collect, use and protect the confidentiality of personal information gathered through our online assistance measure services. It states your rights with respect to this personal information and the way in which you can exercise them.

We collect your personal information in order to:
- Confirm your identity each time we deal with you;
- Access the information needed to process your file;
- Ensure our online assistance measure services are working properly and improve your browsing experience;
- Compile statistics to improve our services.
What information is involved and how is it collected?
Personal information is information about you that directly or indirectly identifies you.
Information collected when using the assistance measure platform
When you submit an application for recognition of an assistant via the My Assistance Measure Account
portal, you will be asked to provide information such as:
- Identity information (your telephone number, address, etc.);
- Brief details about your patrimony, such as income type, assets (e.g., vehicles, buildings, investments), etc.;
- Family/social information, such as marital status, emergency contact information, etc.
This information is needed to process your file. We collect only the personal information required to provide the services for which we are responsible.
Information collected when using other online assistance measure services
When you use services such as Opposing an application for recognition of an assistant
or the Accès-Partenaires account for accredited jurists (in French only)
, we ask you to provide identifying information.
You do not need to provide any personal information about yourself to consult the Public register of assistants (in French only)
. All you need is the last name and first name of the assistant, the measure number, and the secret code provided by the assistant.
Note that the additional information you decide to send via the assistance measure services may be varied in nature, and may contain personal information about you or other people.
Browsing information
When you visit our online assistance measure services, we automatically collect information through your browser, including:
- IP address;
- Date and time of your visit;
- Pages visited.
We use this information to better understand how our site is used and to improve it, without identifying the users.
Cookies
We use cookies to improve our online assistance measure services. They remain on your device even after you end your browsing session.
We use Azure Log Analytics, a web analysis service that provides basic statistics and analytical tools. The information automatically sent between computers using cookies cannot be used to identify you personally.

Who has access to your personal information?
Only authorized employees may access your personal information. The Curateur public ensures that these employees are authorized to access this information and, furthermore, that the information is necessary for them to perform their duties.
Who might be sent your personal information?
The communication of your personal information by the Curateur public du Québec is strictly regulated and occurs only in cases authorized by law. Your information may be shared with:
- Other government bodies, both federal and provincial;
- Other Québec government departments and agencies, such as the Sûreté du Québec;
- Public authorities or law enforcement agencies;
- Service providers authorized within the scope of our mission.
Our service providers, such as lawyers and notaries, have an obligation of confidentiality. Their use of personal information is governed by the applicable legislation and specific contractual provisions.
You have control over your personal information
We systematically ask for your consent, in order to respect your rights. We inform you of your rights and the rules we have put in place to protect them (through this policy). The information you provide may be used only for the purposes for which it was collected, unless you consent to another use or permitted by law.

Use of our online assistance measure services is voluntary, with the exception of applications submitted through an accredited lawyer or notary. You have the right to:
- Update or correct your personal information;
- Obtain a copy of your personal information;
- Authorize a representative to access your personal information.
You can access most of the information collected as part of the online assistance measure services from your secure online account. You can change your personal information, such as your address or telephone number.
If you wish to access information that is not available online, you can ask to do so. Note that access to your personal information is subject to legal restrictions. If access cannot be granted, you will receive a written notice explaining the reasons for the refusal.
If you notice any errors or omissions in your personal information, you have the right to ask for it to be corrected. If your request to have your information corrected is refused, we will provide a written explanation.

If you believe that your personal information has been handled inappropriately, or that the law was not respected, you can file a complaint.

How do we protect your personal information?
We use modern security features to protect your personal information, such as:
- Technological security measures: employee monitoring technology, access management system, passwords, data encryption, and secure communication methods;
- Physical security measures: surveillance cameras, access cards, and locked filing cabinets;
- Administrative security measures: policies, guidelines, identification and authentication procedures, and regular employee training and awareness campaigns.
